The 2018 Morning Plenary Sessions will feature the following: MORNING PLENARY SESSIONS The 2018 Conference will feature daily plenary sessions exploring current issues of interest to all members of the profession. While attending these morning plenary sessions, conference delegates can relax and enjoy a complimentary continental breakfast. Thursday, January 25 8:00 – 9:00 a.m. Room: Frontenac Ballroom You've Got This: Mastering The Skill Of Self Confidence Dr. Ivan Joseph, BA, MA, PhD It takes self-confidence to get things done. In fact, Ivan Joseph defines self-confidence as believing you can accomplish any task at hand. But what if you don't feel self-confident? Contrary to popular thinking, Ivan views self-confidence as a skill that can be trained and honed. An award-winning coach and educator, Ivan uses strategies learned from the sports field to offer a step-by-step approach to deepen your own self-confidence, and develop the resilience to persevere despite setbacks. While serving as a professor and soccer coach at Graceland University in Iowa, Ivan developed the school's soccer program from the ground up, leading both the men's and women's teams to a No. 1 national ranking— and the men's team to a national championship—in just five years. He was named National Coach of the Year in 2006 by the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics, and he was recognized as Coach of the Year by the Heart of America Athletic Conference three times. In this dynamic and engaging keynote, you'll gain specific tips and takeaways to build your own and others' self-confidence. Ivan will also discuss the attributes of self-confident people, giving feedback that builds self- confidence, self-talk and self-affirmation, and interpreting failure. Born in Guyana, Ivan grew up in Toronto, where he was a nationally-ranked, high school track and field athlete. He has a BA in Physical Education and Health, an MA in Higher Education and a PhD in Sports Psychology. He has been director of athletics at Ryerson University since 2008. Thursday's Morning Plenary session has been generously sponsored by Petplan 2 2018 OVMA Conference
