Background:
There has been increasing pressure to make legislation against specific breeds of dogs, most
notably the pit-bull terrier, as they have been implicated in serious attacks on humans and other
animals. CVMA recognizes that aggressiveness in all dogs, and the subsequent dangers to the
public are largely a product of inappropriate methods of genetic selection, rearing and training.
All dogs which are selectively bred, reared or trained for aggressiveness, can pose a significant
danger.
